Is Your Gut Leaking in Oro Valley?

leaky gut in oro valley az

Leaky Gut Syndrome in Oro Valley - the name alone sounds strange but it's common place in this country primarily because of the SAD diet.  That's the Standard American Diet.  When I first started writing these articles almost a year ago I thought it fitting to begin with a series on digestive health because of the magnitude of the problem.  The problems are still common.  In fact, the majority of the patients I see in my office have some level of digestive disturbance.

So, what is Leaky Gut anyway?  It's not a single "disease" but a condition that occurs as a part of many other diseases and syndromes.  It consists of a compromise of the intestinal lining leading to increased intestinal permeability.  Small openings can occur in the lining of the intestine, which allow large molecules of undigested or incompletely digested food to enter the bloodstream.  Food particles enter the bloodstream through damaged mucosal membranes.  The body recognizes them as foreign substances (antigens) and triggers an immune reaction.  The liver also recognizes these antigens as toxins and begins breaking them down.  Eating foods to which we are sensitive increases intestinal permeability, which, in turn, increases our propensity to develop more food sensitivities.  It's a vicious cycle.  Prolonged antibody response can overwhelm the liver's ability to eliminate these food antigens.

What Causes Leaky Gut in Oro Valley?

Almost any food can cause a reaction.  The most common are wheat, dairy products, gluten, corn and soy. These foods provoke 80% of food sensitivity reactions.  So, if you are one of those people who are " allergic to everything" you probably have Leaky Gut Syndrome.

Some of the most common causes of leaky gut syndrome are:

    1. Antibiotic use
    2. Stress
    3. Excessive alcohol consumption
    4. Prolonged use of anti- inflammatory drugs

Some of the most common causes of leaky gut are:

    1. Fatigue
    2. Chronic skin conditions
    3. Abdominal pain
    4. Diarrhea/Constipation
    5. Memory loss
    6. Joint pain
    7. Asthma

As you can see the effects can be debilitating.  The good news is there is help that's natural and safe, without the use on anti-inflammatory drugs that only perpetuate the problem.

If you or someone you know is suffering with any of the above symptoms its always a good idea to get by a qualified natural health practitioner.  At Oro Valley Health and Wellness in Oro Valley we provide you with 32 years experience in helping patients recover from this type of chronic bowel dysfunction.
